Billy Alsbrooks, Jr.,[1] better known by his stage name White Dawg, is an American rapper and record producer. His recordings include the single "Restless" off his second LP Thug Ride. In 2001, White Dawg produced the album Dunks and D's by Thrill da Playa of the group 69 Boyz and produced the Money Hungry Compilation for the Clientel Family.[2] Alsbrooks later started his own label White Dawg Records. His song "Right Here" featuring Jay Roc off his "Me Vs. Me" album became #1 in the U.S.A. on the MySpace rap charts.
Career
Born in Alabama, son of Muscle Shoals Sound Studio guitar player Billy Alsbrooks Sr. and musician Terrie Fleming, White Dawg moved to Broward County, Florida, in 1990. He began distributing his music by giving away tapes at a local record store, Kotam Stereo, in the Oakland Park flea market,[3] and joined the Jam Pony DJs. White Dawg attended the Fort Lauderdale Art Institute majoring in Music and Video Business. He started a recording studio with a friend he met while working at Kotam.
White Dawg released his first single, "I Wanna Lick the P*ssy" (1994), from his self-titled first album, and without airplay the song became a club hit.[4] His next single was "You Smell Like Doo-Doo".
He released "Slang That Thang" with Miami-based label Joey Boy Records, a single which did well all across Asia on compilations. His follow-up single "Restless" was released in 1999 reaching #18 on the Billboard rap chart.[5] Subsequently, Thug Ride was released in 1999, being compared to the music of another white rapper, Eminem.[6] After much success for his independently released album Thug Ride, White Dawg released a follow-up album, Animosity, whose track "Pop a Pill" was played on the radio all across the Southeast.[7]
White Dawg had his own prime time radio show in Orlando, Florida from 2000-2005. He released his fourth album/mixtape, Bonified Platinum, in 2004, and Me vs. Me in 2006, with the single "Right Here".
In early 2008, White Dawg became a Born Again Christian. He graduated from Faith Christian University with a degree in Bible Ministry and Theology in 2013. He is now a motivational speaker, Men of Promise Leader, and author currently writing a book entitled Blessed and Unstoppable: Your Blueprint For Success due to be released late 2016 early 2017.
