Williamsville Wellness

Williamsville Wellness is the only licensed gambling addiction treatment facility in North America, and one of three addiction centers in the United States to offer treatment for compulsive gambling. This center has an unusually high patient to staff ratio (1:1 at most times), offers unique programs beyond the standard 12-step program, and uses several leading-edge technologies for feedback during treatment.

North American Gambling Treatment Centers

In general, gambling addiction treatment is considered an add-on to other addiction treatments. All treatment centers that offer gambling addiction treatment in North America treat gambling in addition to alcohol addiction and other substances addictions.[1]

Williamsville Wellness has a higher percentage of gamblers in treatment than the other facilities, ranging from 25% to 50% of the total patients receiving treatment. Williamsville Wellness currently is only able to take 26 patients for intensive on-site (residential) treatment at a time.

Unique Aspects

Williamsville Wellness is the only licensed gambling treatment center in North America, and is so licensed by the state of Virginia.[2] They maintain separate websites for general addiction treatment[3] and gambling treatment,[4] even though both are done at the same facility.

The industry average for individual treatment is 1.5 hours per day across all addiction rehabilitation programs in North America.[5] One newer rehabilitation facility, that does not treat gambling, offers six hours a week of individual treatment and a net of 6 hours a day of treatment programs.[6]

The Williamsville team has more one on one time with residents than any other facility in the US, with a goal of 18 hours a week of individual therapy treatment.[7] The staff to patient ratio is normally 1:1.[8] This intense individual treatment is a practice encouraged by independent addiction treatment experts.[5][9][10][11]

Additionally, the Williamsville staff test and evaluate for practical use innovations in health care and feedback. The "SMART"[12] Intensive Outpatient Therapy[13] has always used some form of monitoring feedback for patients.[14] Currently under evaluation is the new AmpStrip[15] in their fitness treatment, and the use of facial recognition software for additional emotional feedback in outpatient therapy.[16][17]

Facilities

The facilities are a historic landmark, designated by the US Department of the Interior.
