Willow Glen High School is a public high school in the Willow Glen neighborhood of San Jose, California, within the San Jose Unified School District.

History

The school was placed 731st in Newsweek's List of the 1,000 Top U.S. Schools (2005). The Rams are the athletic mascot of the school, and the homecoming parade is traditionally down the main street, Lincoln Ave., of the Willow Glen district of San Jose. The school is adjacent to Willow Glen Middle School, from which most students arrive after graduating. The school teaches students from grades 9-12. In the class entering in 1982, and earlier, the school covered grades 10-12. The school currently has 1658 students enrolled. Similar to Leland High School, Willow Glen High School will also be receiving a solar power structure to save money and to be beneficial to the environment.

Athletics

Willow Glen High School offers many extra curricular activities including football, baseball, tennis, soccer, basketball, volleyball, badminton, water polo, track and field, and cross country. Willow Glen High School has a swimming pool, two gyms, two baseball fields, a track/football/soccer field, a sand volleyball court, and basketball courts.

Willow Glen High School Boys' Volleyball won a CCS championship in 2009, one of the first public schools to do so in that CCS division. Also, in 2010, Willow Glen High School Football won a CCS championship against Sequoia High School. From 1972-1980, the boys' basketball team was coached by the notable collegiate coach Bob Burton. Lastly, Willow Glen's Baseball team won a CCS championship in 2013. The 2010 Willow Glen boys' cross country won the CCS championship for the first time in 26 years. In 2014 the boys' cross country placed 3rd at CCS qualifying for the 2014 CIF State championships and placed 10th. The first state team in 4 years at Willow Glen. Mock Trial

Coached by Assistant United States Attorney James A. Scharf, Willow Glen's Mock Trial team, which re-formed in 2011, advanced to the championship round of the Santa Clara County Mock Trial competition in 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2016, winning the county championship in both 2013 and 2014.
