Wim Vandekeybus

Wim Vandekeybus (born 30 June 1963, Herenthout) is a Belgian choreographer, dancer, film director and actor. His dance company, Ultima Vez, is based in Brussels. He has directed several shows starting from his first piece in 1987, What The Body Does Not Remember. Many different composers and musicians have written scores for his shows, including X-Legged Sally, Peter Vermeersch, Thierry De Mey, David Byrne, Marc Ribot, David Eugene Edwards, Mauro Pawlowski and Elko Blijweert. He has also directed several movies, some of them based on his dance material and some not. In 1988, Wim Vandekeybus along with Marie Chouinard and Mark Tompkins showed their works at the first ImPulsTanz festival. Their names are closely related to the festival ever since, which has meanwhile become Europe’s biggest contemporary dance festival.

In 2011, his film Monkey Sandwich was selected at the 68th Venice International Film Festival, out of competition, in the Orizzonti section.
