Wolfgang Bauer (artist)
Wolfgang Gerhard Bauer (born July 16, 1969) is a Vienna, Austria born artist, with a preference for oil paintings on large canvases. He currently resides in Los Angeles.
Life and work
Wolfgang Bauer is the son of a dentist, Herbert Bauer, and chef, Elfriede Nebel. He studied directing at the Max Reinhard Seminar (the Hochschule fuer Musik und Darstellende Kunst Vienna Austria) and the Mozarteum (the Hochschule fuer Musik und Darstellende Kunst) in Salzburg. Bauer worked in the theatrical and cinematic arts extensively in the 1980s and 1990s. His work in theatre, film and television largely took place in Munich, Germany, Vienna and Salzburg. Concurrently, he studied painting with the Austrian artist and student of Oscar Kokoschka, Alexander Tinti.
He had his first exhibit in Germany at the Gallery Betzien in Graefelfing, followed by several group showings at the Gallerie Galerie fuer Zeitgenoessische Kunst - Andreas Baumgartl in Munich and in the Gallery MOTTO in Vienna. His paintings are in the FLORENCE BIENNALE 2011 [Biennale Internazionale Dell Arte Contemporanea]. His paintings are in large private collections all over the world, including that of Max and Inge Kerscher in Munich, as well as in various other private collections. After moving to Los Angeles in the mid 1990s, Bauer continued his art education getting a degree in fine arts at the University of Southern California. He is a MFA candidate at Otis [College of Art and Design Los Angeles CA] His Los Angeles exhibitions include shows at the Fisher Gallery, the Lindhurst Gallery, Bolsky Gallery, ONE Archive Gallery, and at Found Gallery.[1]
