Performances Speculation

SMAP announced its disband for later this year, and since then it began to draw their attention to their final appearance on Kouhaku. Several rumors began circulating in the Japanese press.

For the SMAP, the news is that the group most likely will decline their participation in this Kouhaku. After their disband announcement (August 2016), NHK revealed that his intention is to make an offering to SMAP to perform his "last stage" in Kouhaku, to bid farewell to the fans.

AKB48 which sold over 4 million singles in 2016, was held their AKB48 Fes 2016 along with other 48G sister groups, and aired October 22, only on Japan. However, Haruka Shimazaki will graduate from the group late this year, and this Kouhaku may be a chance for Paruru perform her final stage as idol with AKB48.

Momoiro Clover Z wasn't performed last year because were not invited, and may return this year due to other important factor: Kanako Momota is currently on the main cast from Beppinsan which was premiered October 03. MCZ has been released two albums simultaneaosly, "Amaranthus" and "Hakkin no Yoake". In September, "The Golden History" was released.

Arashi is also one of artists which will perform this year, due to Aiba's leading Shirogumi for the sixth time (counting other five contests with all Arashi members).

Kimi no Na wa

NHK invited RADWIMPS to perform "Kohaku Uta Gassen" for the first time, due the band's involvement in what the company called a film that "symbolized the year". The band released the movie soundtrack "Your Name", from animation picture of same name.
