Ashutosh Agashe (born 21 October 1972) is an Indian cricket player and businessman. He is the son of businessman and cricketer Dnyaneshwar Agashe,[2] brother of music director Mandar Agashe and actress Sheetal Agashe, uncle of singer-songwriter Adi Agashé and grandson of industrialist Chandrashekhar Agashe. In his youth, he has played the Ranji Trophy.[3] He is currently managing director of Brihan Maharashtra Sugar Syndicate.[4][5]
Early life
Agashe was born on 21 October 1972 into the entrepreneurial, aristocratic, Chitpavan brahmin[6] family of businessman Dnyaneshwar Agashe and wife Rekha Agashe (née Gogte).[7] He is the grandson of industrialist Chandrashekhar Agashe. He has one brother, music director Mandar Agashe and one sister. He is the uncle of singer-songwriter Adi Agashé, his brother's son.[7]
He is also a known 3rd cousin of co-founder of The True School of Music, Mumbai, Ashutosh Phatak, through his father. Through his mother, he is the 3rd cousin of Marathe Jewellers co-founder, Kaustubh Marathe, he also is the 13th cousin of chairman and managing director of PNG Jewellers, Saurabh Gadgil,[8] and is the 1st cousin-in-law, once removed of chairman and managing director of Kokuyo Camlin Ltd., Dilip Dandekar,[8] having a well documented pedigree.
He was awarded a BCom degree from Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce in affiliation with the University of Pune.[7]
He was married to Shalini Agashe (née Phadke) till 2013.[7]
Cricket career
Agashe represented his home state of Maharashtra in the Ranji Trophy and played for the Maharashtra cricket team from 1997 to 1999.[3] His batting style is the Right-hand bat and his bowling style is Right-arm medium.[1] He has also played List A from 1996 to 2000.[1]

Business career
Agashe has been director to many companies and business, such as Brima Finance Ltd since 1994, Agashe Brothers Financing Company since 2009 and Baumgarten and Wallia since 2010.[5] Agashe played a key role in establishing the partnership between Howling Wolves Wine Group of Australia and Brihan Maharashtra Sugar Syndicate in 2005 which planned to set up a wine production base in India.[4] Agashe has been managing director at Brihan Maharashtra Sugar Syndicate since 1996.[4]
Suvarna Sahakari Bank Scam 2008
Agashe was chairman of his father's brainchild Suvarna Sahakari Bank when the bank business was placed under moratorium by the Reserve Bank of India.[2] Following the scandal his father was involved in,[9] Agashe and 14 others, including his father and brother, were arrested on November 22 for allegedly misappropriating Rs 436.74 crore of the bank between 1998 and 2006.[10] Leaving Agashe, all other suspects were senior citizens, who were suffering from various medical ailments, the lawyer said. Inspector Narayan Khaire produced the suspects before judicial magistrate first class G G Itkalkar, following expiry of their two-day police custody remand. The court remanded the suspects to magisterial custody for 14 days.[10]
