CD226 (Cluster of Differentiation 226), PTA1 (outdated term, 'platelet and T cell activation antigen 1')[4] or DNAM-1 (DNAX Accessory Molecule-1)[4] is a protein that in humans is encoded by the CD226 gene which is located on chromosome 18q22.3.[5]
Structure and function
CD226 is a ~65 kDa glycoprotein expressed on the surface of natural killer cells, platelets, monocytes and a subset of T cells. It is a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily containing 2 Ig-like domains of the V-set. CD226 mediates cellular adhesion to other cells bearing its ligands, CD112 and CD155,[6][7] and cross-linking CD226 with antibodies causes cellular activation.[5]
