Established in 1999, CREDAI (Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Associations of India) is the apex body representing 11,500 private Real Estate developers spread across 23 state level chapters and 162 cities in India. CREDAI is a not-for-profit company registered under Section 25 of Companies Act, 1956. CREDAI seeks to create a favourable policy climate to ensure housing for all. CREDAI specially articulates the concerns of private housing providers. CREDAI has become the preferred platform with regard to national discourse on Housing and Habitat through strong networking with Government, Policy Makers, Investors, Financial Institutions and Real Estate Developers. CREDAI is the prime knowledge sharing forum for latest industry data, technological advancements and industry benchmarks. Initiatives have been fruitful in liberalization of FDI and investment regimes, streamlining of approvals and creation of financial instruments culminating in the goal of housing for all by 2022. In order to inspire confidence in the industry, CREDAI has adopted a Voluntary Code of Conduct [1] ensuring highest ethical standards among its members. To predominantly safeguard consumer interest, CREDAI insists on setting up of Consumer Redressal Forums through all its City Level associations. CREDAI is the preferred CSR (corporate social responsibility) arm of its members with Skill Development, Education Scholarships and Swachh Bharat as thematic areas. To facilitate synthesis of CSR and Sustainability initiatives of CREDAI Members across the country, CREDAI has set up CREDAI CSR FOUNDATION in May 18, 2015. This foundation is supported entirely through voluntary contributions of CREDAI’s registered members.
Vision Mission, Role and Objective
Vision: To be an organisation of developers with a high degree of integrity; to harness the credibility to gain respect from every stake holder to assist the government to achieve housing surplus status to create adequate urban infrastructure to facilitate skill development, towards contributing substantially to GDP.[2]
Mission: To establish CREDAI chapters in 80% of the urban areas; to get every member developer to sign a transparent Code of Conduct; to pursue the government to implement reforms in land, tax, administrative & fiscal areas to achieve surplus affordable housing and high GDP; to promote skill development program at all levels of management from bottom to top by establishing Institutes of excellence & research; to enhance knowledge in aesthetic design and efficient execution of projects of members through conventions and other avenues.[2]
Objective: The associate has listed the following objectives:
- To propagate an ethical code of conduct for all the members on voluntary basis so as to uphold integrity & transparency in the profession of Real Estate Development.
- To represent the developers across India by communicating & representing with the government for the advancement of housing, habitat and real estate. Policies for this sector.
- To encourage & support the developers to increase their efficiency in the development /construction activities by introducing the latest technologies.
- To disseminate the data, statistics & other related information in the sector.
- To promote the interest of construction workers & to educate them on the best practices. To encourage research in the profession of construction & real estate development
- To facilitate easy housing finance availability to the property purchases and construction finances to the developers by working in close coordination with the leading house finance institutions & banks.[2]

Code of Conduct
The CREDAI Code of Conduct is a document of principles that binds all members of CREDAI . It is the most important founding stone of the association and has been included in the proposed Real Estate Regulatory Act. This document lists the guidelines and a mandatory set of laws that all members have to implement and abide by. The aim of this Code of Conduct for Developers, Promoters and Builders is to maintain the honour and dignity of Developers, Promoters and Builders in general, to secure the spirit of friendly co-operation between the Developers, Promoters and Builders and their customers in the promotion of highest standard of promotion, development and building activities and to establish transparency, and fair dealing between the developers, promoters and builders with their customers; and to establish a spirit of brotherhood within the Associations of Developers, Promoters and Builders to try and ensure that Developers, Promoters and Builders discharge their responsibilities to the community in general.[3]
CREDAI Karnataka
CREDAI Karnataka is a sub division of the CREDAI association. This sub-association comprises 9 chapters, representing nine separate large cities across the state of Karnataka (Bangaluru, Mysuru, Mangalore, Belgaum, Hubli-Dharwad, Bijapur, Karwar, Gulbarga and Udupi) with over 450 associated members.[4] The executive council (chairman MR R NAGARAJ and president MR VK JAGADISH BABU) comprises a total of nine senior developers across Karnataka.[5] The association is involved with a number of events throughout the year including Statecon Hubli 2016[6] and SMILE (Strategise, Meet, Interact, Learn, Exchange) for example.
The CREDAI Karnatka website is designed, developed and maintained by Webdatalabs, India.[7] Support activities include maintenance for the CREDAI Karnataka website as well as assistance in digital advertising campaigns where required.
Leadership on Green Properties in India
The IFC and CREDAI have partnered to promote green buildings in the India through IFC’s EDGE certification. An MoU was signed in the presence of Minister for Environment and Forests Prakash Javadekar on[8] November 25, 2014.
