Early life
Quincey White was born on April 21, 1987 in Athens Park, Los Angeles. At a very early age he became fascinated with music as he grew up listening to the likes of 2pac, Eminem, Nas & Jadakiss. He attended Inglewood High-school and it was not until around this time that he choose to quit playing basketball and began to seriously pursue a career in rap music after going to the studio with a childhood friend. In 2004, White joined forces with a local figure from Watts, California, by the name of "Geno Cap" who became a fan of White's undeniable talent and called on the young rapper to be a part of his label, Hoodz Finezt. White was affiliated with the Athens Park Blood gang.[1]
Career
White's lyrical skills and versatility awarded him the reputation of being one of the most refreshing new rappers, and this was on display when he was featured on Compton rapper The Game's, Black Wall Street Journal mixtape series in 2006. Shortly after Geno Cap's death in an apparent car accident, White decided to have a new fresh start and felt that the negative press associated with the name Hoodz Finezt was too turnt for his business and reflective of the creative musical direction he was heading in. In late 2011, after releasing the mixtapes the Face of California and The Departure, White began to release a series of mixtape projects such as The Layover (2012) and The Black Box (2013) and began to get some notoriety. They have all acknowledged his skill and have predicted him to an artist to keep an eye on. At 26 years old, White has released several mixtapes. He has worked alongside artists such as Reek da Villian, Yung Berg, Cali Swag District, Nino Brown, Nipsey Hussle, Glasses Malone, Emilio Rojas and some others.
White released his latest mixtape, Never Content, on January 14, 2014. It featured a series of guest appearances from Iamsu!, Nipsey Hussle, Eric Bellinger, Skeme, Rayven Justice, Glasses Malone, Lamar Jay and more.[2] White was featured on the Blood Money Entertainment compilation, Blood Moon: Year of the Wolf, which was released on September 16, 2014. XXL also reported that The Game had signed White to the label,[3] but he denies that he was signed.[4]
