Edward Warner (1511–1565)

Sir Edward Warner (1511–1565) was an English politician, and Lieutenant of the Tower of London.[1]

He was an MP for Grantham 1545, 1547, March 1553 and October 1553, Great Grimsby 1559, and Norfolk in 1563.[2] Edward Warner was involved at the F.O. with British S.O.E. forces inside Greece from 1943 onwards and spoke about the then British government's policy and actions against EAM and the attempt to reinstate a Metaxas style anti-communist authoritarian Greek government amenable to British interests under the Greek monarchy. At that time four fifths of Greece had been liberated by Greek partisans from the left wing ELAS side of the resistance who were deeply opposed to a return to monarchy. The British refused to organise a referendum which would have shown popular opposition to these plans. The Greek Civil War followed.
