The Embassy of Slovenia in Washington, D.C. is the Republic of Slovenia's diplomatic mission to the United States. The embassy in Washington is also responsible for representing Slovenia in Mexico. The chancery is located just off Embassy Row at 2410 California Street NW in the Kalorama neighborhood. Consular assistance is also provided by Slovenia's network of consulates in the U.S. and Mexico.[1]
Slovenia's current ambassador to the United States is Božo Cerar.[2] Ambassador Cerar presented his letter of credence to U.S. President Barack Obama on September 17, 2013. He also serves as ambassador to Mexico and as a permanent representative to the Organization of American States and the Caribbean Community.
Slovenia–U.S. relations
The United States formally recognized Slovenia on April 7, 1992. Since Slovenia's independence, the United States and Slovenia have developed strong, cooperative relations and partnership on a broad range of issues, from promoting regional security to developing closer bilateral trade and investment ties.
Cultural cooperation
The Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in Washington every year organizes a range of cultural events, indicated in the weekly Embassy's Newsletter[3] and facebook page. Premises of the embassy include a spacious reception hall, which also serves as a gallery space and a concert room. Anja Bukovec, Miha Alujević, Artvento quintet, Gary Bukovnik, Sabina Cvilak, Jože Domjan, Andrej Goričar, Matej Grahek, Mak Grgić, Meta Grgurević/Jaša Mrevlje/Luka Uršič, Bogdan Grom, Marko Hatlak, Arne Hodalič, Ištvan Išt Huzjan, Stane Jeršič and Barbara Jakše Jeršič, Barbara Jernejčič Fürst and Žarko Ignjatović, Barbara Jurkovšek,Manca Juvan, Boštjan Korošec, Jiři Kočica, Lučka Koščak, Vlado Kreslin, Nejc Kuhar, Tone Kuntner, Nejc Lavrenčič, Mojca Majcen, Megaron Chamber Choir, Octet9, Irena Preda, Nataša Prosenc, 4Saxess quartet, SLOWIND, Andrej Schlegel, Zora Stančič and Tanja Radež, Jože Svetina, Ejti Štih, Lana Trotovšek, Jaka Vinšek, Albin Zaverl, Zagreb Saxophone Quartet, Miro Zupančič, Zvone Žigon and Dragan Živadinov are some of the artists that performed or exhibited at the embassy.
The Embassy also promotes activities of the twelve artists from Slovenia who are annually chosen by the Slovenian Ministry of Culture to spend a month in the residency in New York which is a part of the Slovene Arts & Culture Residencies Program of the Ministry of Culture.
Embassy of Slovenia in Washington D.C. also participates in annual cultural events organized in cooperation with Delegation of the European Union in Washington, D.C. other EU member states’ embassies, non EU embassies, consulates, non governmental and non profit organizations, universities and cultural institutes. Most distinguished partners include Embassy Series, The Kennedy Center, U.S. Library of Congress, National Gallery of Art and Phillips Collection. La Grande Fête de la Francophonie in March, EU Open House in May, EuroNight in September, Euro Kids Festival in October and November, AFI – EU Film Showcase in December, Panorama Europe Film Festival in April (both film festivals are supported by the Slovenian Film Centre), and Small Nations Poetry Reading are some of the traditional annual events.
The Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia Washington is a member of the European Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC): the EUNIC Washington cluster and the EUNIC New York cluster, both dedicated to promote contemporary European culture in the U.S.

Artwork
The artist Bogdan Grom donated his sculpture Stražar (Sentinel) (1968) to the embassy, which is exhibited in the front of the building.[4]
In 2009, the embassy exhibited a retrospective of his work.[5]
