"Fly" is the only single from Nickelback's debut album Curb.[1] A music video was shot for it, also a first for the band. The drums featured in the song were played by their original drummer, Brandon Kroeger. "Fly" was played on local radio stations, but wasn't very successful. The song did not chart.
Background and meaning
It is about Chad Kroeger as a kid, asking where bad men go when they die, and his mother tells him that they grow wings and they fly to Heaven or Hell. He is still mystified, though, and he wants to try to "fly" using his father's gun to kill himself to see where he goes.
Music video
"Fly" was featured in the Canadian independent film Horsey, and clips from the film were used in the music video for the song, intercut with footage of the band performing. The clips with the band were filmed in a studio out at the Justice Institute of British Columbia. The music video was released on July 13, 1996. Much Music was the only channel to ever show it upon initial release.
