Germán Sánchez Barahona (born 3 July 1993), simply known as Germán, is a Spanish footballer who plays for CD Tenerife as a central defender.

Club career

Born in San Fernando, Cádiz, Andalusia, Germán made his senior debuts with UD San Fernando in the 2004–05 campaign, as a central midfielder. He first arrived in Segunda División B in 2008 with CD San Fernando, on loan from Cádiz CF.[1]

In the 2009 summer Germán returned to the Submarino Amarillo; initially assigned to the reserve team in Tercera División, he was promoted to the main squad in June of the following year.[2] After making no league appearances during the first half of the 2010–11 campaign, he moved to San Fernando CD on 31 January 2011.[3]

Always an undisputed starter, Germán helped the latter in its promotion to the third tier in 2011–12, being also converted to a central defender in the process. On 19 June 2014, after suffering relegation, he signed a one-year deal with UE Olot.[4]

On 27 May 2015, after being an undisputed starter for the Catalans, Germán opted to not renew his contract,[5] and joined Segunda División side CD Tenerife on 10 July, after agreeing to a one-year link.[6] He made his professional debut on 23 August at the age of 28, starting in a 3–6 away loss against CD Numancia.[7]

Germán scored his first professional goal on 25 October 2015, netting his a last-minute equalizer in a 2–2 home draw against CA Osasuna.[8]

Personal life

Germán's brother, Servando, is also a footballer and a defender.[9]
