Line 1 automation
In line with works to automate Line 1, Hôtel de Ville station has undergone a series of upgrades. Over the weekend of 21–22 March 2009, the Line 1 platforms were closed received platform edge doors to improve passenger safety and aid in driverless operation.[1] During the construction period, the Line 11 station remained open, allowing for westward travel to Châtelet, where a transfer to Line 1 was possible.[1]

As with most Paris Métro stations, Hôtel de Ville utilises a side platform configuration with two tracks for both its Line 1 and Line 11 stations. Since the Métro runs opposite national railways, trains run on the right instead of the left. The two parts of Hôtel de Ville station complex lie perpendicularly to each other, Line 1 underneath Rue de Rivoli and Line 11 below Rue de Renard.[2]
