Jewett is a village in Cumberland County, Illinois, United States. The population was 223 at the 2010 census.[1] It is part of the Charleston–Mattoon Micropolitan Statistical Area.
Geography
Jewett is located in south-central Cumberland County at 39°12′30″N 88°14′43″W / 39.20833°N 88.24528°W (39.208458, -88.245157),[2] along the route of the former National Road. U.S. Route 40 now runs through the northern part of the village, leading northeast 5 miles (8 km) to Greenup and southwest 8 miles (13 km) to Montrose. Interstate 70 passes to the north of the village, with access at Greenup and Montrose.
According to the 2010 census, Jewett has a total area of 1 square mile (2.59 km2), all land.[3]

As of the census[6] of 2000, there were 232 people, 83 households, and 58 families residing in the village. The population density was 230.7 people per square mile (88.7/km²). There were 96 housing units at an average density of 95.5 per square mile (36.7/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 100.00% White.
There were 83 households out of which 32.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.0% were married couples living together, 7.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.1% were non-families. 25.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.80 and the average family size was 3.36.
In the village the population was spread out with 30.2% under the age of 18, 9.9% from 18 to 24, 26.3% from 25 to 44, 22.8% from 45 to 64, and 10.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females there were 88.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.2 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $30,313, and the median income for a family was $42,083. Males had a median income of $24,375 versus $23,125 for females. The per capita income for the village was $16,628. About 15.7% of families and 19.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 32.3% of those under the age of eighteen and 23.3% of those sixty five or over.
