Magnolia Park Town Center is a shopping center in Greenville, South Carolina currently under construction. The shopping center will be mixed-use.
Description
The shopping center will be located at the former Greenville Mall location which is at the intersection of Woodruff Road, I-385/Golden Strip Freeway, and Interstate 85.
History
The mixed-use development replaced the Greenville Mall which was built in 1978. It originally included JBWhite and Montgomery Ward. In 1995, the mall was renovated and expanded, adding higher-end stores such as Parisian, Drexel Heritage, Williams-Sonoma, Harold's and others. JBWhite was acquired by Dillard's, Parisian was converted into a Proffitt's and the mall lost nearly all of its tenants by the early 2000s.
The development was proposed in 2006, the original size was supposed to be over 1,300,000 sq ft (120,000 m2) including Retail, Office, Residential, Hotel, and a theater. The site-plan has been changed multiple times since 2006 to bring it down to 900,000 sq ft (84,000 m2).
Site-Plan
The current site plan will include:
- Retail 650,000 sq ft (60,000 m2).
- Office 100,000 sq ft (9,300 m2).
- Hotel 70,000 sq ft (6,500 m2).
- Theater 80,000 sq. ft. (existing)
Current and Future Plans
Costco, Bed Bath and Beyond and Old Navy were some of the first stores in the development.[1]
Development began to pick up speed in late 2011. Retail chain Rooms To Go located to the site. New restaurants began locating to the site, and a new strip mall was built. Construction began on the new buildings to house Toys R Us and Babies R Us. In early 2013, outdoor retail chain Cabela's announced they would be opening a new store on the site, with a planned completion date of Spring 2014.[2]
