Edward S. Marcus High School is one of five main high schools in the Lewisville Independent School District, in the U.S. state of Texas. The school opened in 1981 and was the second high school in the district. It services students who live in northern Flower Mound, Highland Village, Double Oak, Lewisville, and Copper Canyon.
Marcus' mascot is the Marauder whose imagery mimics the Texas Tech Masked Rider. There have been five different costumes for the mascot, the most recent introduced in 2014.
Academics
Marcus High School was named a National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education in 1994–96.[1]
Scheduling
Marcus High School uses a form of schedule known as block scheduling.[2] There are four periods in a single school day, each being one and a half hours in length; with an 8-minute passing time from one period to the next.
Size
Marcus High School has over 3,000 students enrolled as of the 2013–14 school year, with a graduating class of over 800 students. The campus is approximately 53 acres including a football stadium, basketball arena, and a new ninth grade campus built over the course of early 2014.
Additions
During the 2013–14 school year, there have been very noticeable construction areas around the Marcus campus. The largest of these projects include the addition of a Black Box theater on the north side of the building and a 9th grade center on the west side. The 9th grade center has been open since the start of the 2014–15 school year, and has incorporated technology into classrooms with new computers and televisions to make learning more modern and creative.
