Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology

The Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology (MEST) is a school in Accra, Ghana. The School and accompanying incubator program provide training, investment, and mentoring for aspiring technology entrepreneurs with the goal of creating globally successful companies that create wealth and jobs locally in Africa.

History

In 2007 the Meltwater Group announced plans to establish an entrepreneurial training program in Africa. The school opened in February 2008 with the first class of Entrepreneurs in Training (EITs). In February 2010 the first class of EITs graduated. The MEST Incubator launches with seed funding for incubator companies started by the first group of MEST EITs.

In March 2011 Nandimobile Ltd, a technology startup founded by MEST graduates, received an award at the LAUNCH Conference in San Francisco.[1] In February 2012 Dropifi, a technology startup founded by MEST graduates, was listed as one of the top 20 tech startups in Africa.[2] In February 2013 Dropifi joined the incubator as a member of Batch 6 of the 500 Startups program in California, USA.

Program

MEST sponsors African entrepreneurs in completing a twelve-month program mainly focused on software development and entrepreneurship.[3] Top graduates from schools in Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa and Entrepreneurs-In-Training (EITs) are selected each year to receive comprehensive training in computer programming, product management, finance, marketing, sales, business leadership, and other skills required to build a successful technology business.
