The Ministry of Industry of the Kingdom of Thailand (Thai: กระทรวงอุตสาหกรรม; rtgs: Krasuang Utsahakam; Abrv: M-Industry) is a cabinet ministry in the Government of Thailand. The ministry is responsible for the promotion and regulation of industries. The ministry is headed by a Minister of Industry, Mrs Atchaka Sibunruang.[1]

History

The Ministry of Industry started out in 1933 as a division or the Industrial Division (Thai: กองอุตสาหกรรม) in the Department of Commerce (Thai: กรมพาณิชย์) (now Ministry of Commerce) of the Ministry of Economics (Thai: กระทรวงเศรษฐกิจ) (now defunct). In 1941 the division was upgraded to the Department of Industry (still in the Economic Ministry). On 5 May 1942 the Ministry of Industry was created in its own right.[2]
