Mirvish+Gehry is an approved building complex in Toronto, Ontario. It was designed by David Mirvish said Frank Gehry.
Consisting of two towers, 92 and 82 floors respectively, when completed it will be the tallest skyscraper in Toronto and the tallest skyscraper in Canada (ahead of First Canadian Place).[1] The smaller of two towers will be taller than Toronto's next highest condo, Aura, by 1 metre.[2]
The two towers will lie on either side of Duncan street (aka Ed Mirvish Way), in Toronto's King West neighbourhood. Together, they are set to have 1,950 units. Beneath the condos, the plan includes a public art gallery devoted to Mirvish's collection of abstract expressionist art and a new campus for the OCAD University.
The design of the buildings has been compared to New York's IAC Building. [3] Toronto-born Frank Gehry was also the main architect behind Toronto's Art Gallery of Ontario building.
The building complex was initially 3 towers, and included demolition of some historical buildings, including the Mirvish-owned Princess of Wales Theatre. The plan was reduced to 2 towers, after consultation with the city, and would spare the theatre.[4]
