He started his career as a worker at A&W Restaurants, Subang Jaya after he left his hometown in 1998 to start a new life in Kuala Lumpur. He moved to Kuala Lumpur with his best friend when he was 16 in order to achieve his dream to become an actor. While he was working at the restaurant, he attended several auditions to play a role in dramas and movies. In early year of his career, he worked super hard to master English language and remove his thick Kelantanese accent.[1]

In the early year, Pekin started his career in film industry only as a supporting actor. Pekin played a role in his first movie called Di Ambang Misteri directed by Silver Chung in 2004. He then played a role in a movie Cinta Terakhir directed by Along Kamaludin also as a supporting character. In 2009, he got an offered to play a role as a supporting actor in a horror movie called Skrip 7707 directed by Prof Madya A. Razak Mohaideen.
2010s
Pekin's career started to rise after he has been offered to play a role in a horror comedy film Hantu Kak Limah Balik Rumah (2010) directed by Malaysian most famous film director, Mamat Khalid. In 2012, he played a main role as Bakar in Bunohan directed by Dain Siad. In this film, Pekin had to speak in Kelantanese dialect and that was not a big problem because he is originated from Kelantan.
In 2013, he had been offered once again by Mamat Khalid to play a role as a main actor in his new comedy film called Rock Ooo. Pekin's name continue to rise in Malaysian Film Industry when he played a role in a science fiction movie Apokalips X which is directed by Mamat Khalid as well. He then played a big part in a film called Ophilia (2014) directed by Raja Mukhriz Raja Ahmad Kamaluddin as one of the members in a skinhead group.[2]
In 2015, he played a role as a main character in a horror movie directed by a Malaysian new film director Syafiq Yusof called Villa Nabila. In 2016, Pekin was offered by Syamsul Yusof to play a role in Munafik as a main actor. The movie managed to earn about RM 19 million in just 2 months.
Directorial career
In 2016, Pekin took a huge step in directing career when he started to direct his own movie Mat Moto and Volkswagen Kuning. 2016 is a magical year for Pekin Ibrahim when his film managed to take home three awards at 28th Malaysia Film Festival including Best Original Story, Best New Actress for Falisha Crossley, and Best Actor via Pekin himself.[3] After his win in the 2016 Malaysia Film Festival, he said:
Mat Moto means a lot to me because it's close to my heart and it's my first directorial project. Also, I never expected that my character can win even though it was hard to play, but it's not so heavy. In terms of emotion, I think there are other heavier characters out there. This is my first Malaysia Film Festival win since being in the industry for more than 20 years. It is also my second nomination as my first was in 2012 for Malaysia Film Festival 25 for the film, Bunohan.
