Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology, commonly known as RUET, is one of the seventeen PhD granting public research universities in Bangladesh. It is one of the five prestigious public universities that specializes in the field of engineering (Other four ones are named as BUET, CUET, DUET and KUET).
RUET was founded in 1964 as Rajshahi Engineering College with a limited number of students. It was then changed to Bangladesh Institute of Technology (BIT) in 1986 and was finally renamed Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET) in 2003.
At present, more than 3000 students are pursuing their higher study in this green campus including under-graduate and post-graduate with over 250 prominent faculty members in diverse field of expertise. The medium of instruction and necessary assessment of this university is English.[3]
History[4]
Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET) was founded in 1964 with the name of Rajshahi Engineering College as the second oldest institute that specializes in the field of engineering. At that moment, there were only three departments: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering and Civil Engineering. The institute started with bachelor's degree program. A limited number of students (122) enrolled that year.
Later it was converted to Bangladesh Institute of Technology (BIT), Rajshahi in 1986 to enhance the technical education.
The institute is upgraded as Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET) in September, 2003 to enhance the technical education and research.
At present, the university is financed by the Government through the university Grants Commission of Bangladesh. The university is an autonomous statutory organization of the Government of Bangladesh functioning within the "Rajshahi University of Engineering &Technology Act 2003.
Campus[5]
RUET is situated in the northern part of Bangladesh, in the city of Rajshahi.
The distinguishable seasons in Bangladesh are summer and winter. In summer season (May–October) temperature of Rajshahi is hot and typically 25-40 degree Celsius and sometimes humid. In winter season (November–April) temperature is moderate typically 8-20 degree Celsius.

Enrollment[10]
Admission
Undergraduate program
Each year, among the received applications the admission committee scrutinizes and sets priority based on highest sum of the grade point of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English of Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC). The committee continue the priority process until the number of students become equal to the certain number of seats in the admission test. Usually about ten times students of the total seat are allowed for admission test. Combined admission test is held and allocation of the department is done after the admission test result based on the merit position and choice of the students.[11]
Post-graduate program
The admission Committee in each department as constituted by the respective PGAC. The admission committee scrutinizes the applications. The eligible applicants may be required to appear at a written and/or oral test conducted by the admission committee. The committee, on the basis of the admission test result, approves a list of prospective postgraduate students for admission into the postgraduate program of the concerned department. On the recommendation of the appropriate PGAC, the rules for admission into postgraduate courses of RUET may be amended from time to time by the Academic council through CASR.
