Sun Belt Conference football

The Sun Belt Conference is a conference of 12 (originally 7) universities which participate in the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division I Football Bowl Subdivision. Currently, 11 schools play football in the conference—nine full members and two football-only associate members. Another full member will join Sun Belt football for the 2017 season, and the two associate members will leave after that season. Although the Sun Belt was formed in 1976, it did not start sponsoring football until 2001.

  1. Future capacity when Coastal joins Sun Belt football in 2017.
  2. Georgia State is currently in the process of purchasing Turner Field once the Atlanta Braves leave for SunTrust Park after the 2016 season. It has not yet been determined where the Panthers will play their 2017 home schedule, as the Georgia Dome is scheduled to be demolished once its replacement, Mercedes-Benz Stadium, opens in June 2017.
  3. Although the Georgia Dome has a football capacity of 71,228, Georgia State normally uses a configuration with a capacity of only 28,155.
