Toronto Economic Development and Culture Division
The Toronto Economic Development and Culture Division is responsible for the economic wellbeing of Toronto and to promote cultural events and venues in Toronto. It was formerly a part of Toronto Parks and Recreation and was created in April 2005.
The Economic Development and Culture Division is committed to promoting the development of arts, culture and heritage throughout the City. The Culture Division ensures accessibility to a variety of cultural activities that enhance the cultural attractions of the Toronto Region, as well as providing direct cultural services through its museums and historic sites, and supporting the entire cultural sector of the community.
Facilities overseen by the Economic Development and Culture Division include:
- Hummingbird Centre
- Toronto Zoo
- Black Creek Pioneer Village
- Don Valley Brick Works
- Toronto Heritage
- Canadian National Exhibition or "The Ex"
- Museums other than the Royal Ontario Museum, Bata Shoe Museum
TEDC often hold events on city owned venues such as:
- Nathan Phillips Square
- Yonge-Dundas Square - (not actually city owned)
- Mel Lastman Square
