Virginia Senate, District 7
District 7 of the Virginia Senate is a senatorial district that encompasses portions of Norfolk and Virginia Beach in the U.S. state of Virginia. This district is currently represented by Frank Wagner.
Historical boundaries
From 1940 - 1954, the district was composed of Brunswick and Mecklenberg counties in Southside Virginia. In 1955, Lunenburg County was added. That configuration lasted until 1965. From 1965 - 1972, the 7th District included Brunswick, Dinwiddie, Mecklenberg and the City of Petersburg.[1] From 1972 - 1980, the 7th District was merged with the 5th and 6th Districts and they were jointly represented by three Senators. After the 1981 redistricting, there were no more multimember Senate districts. From 1982 - 1992, the district included parts of the cities of Norfolk and Virginia Beach. From 1992 - 2011, the district was entirely located within the City of Virginia Beach.
Current boundaries
The 7th District comprises parts of the cities of Norfolk and Virginia Beach in the Hampton Roads area of Southeast Virginia. The district includes only two precincts in Norfolk, so almost the entire district is in Virginia Beach.
