WESC-FM is a Country music radio station licensed to Greenville, South Carolina and serves the Upstate region, including Greenville and Spartanburg. The iHeartMedia, Inc. outlet is licensed to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to broadcast at 92.5 MHz with an effective radiated power (ERP) of 100,000 watts. The station goes by the name 92.5 WESC and its slogan is "Carolina's Best Country And Your All-Time Favorites." Its studios are in downtown Greenville and its transmitter is along the North Carolina/South Carolina border, east of Cedar Mountain, North Carolina.

History

WESC-FM signed on in March 1948 as the FM sister to WESC 660. In its earlier years, WESC-FM was a beautiful music station. However, for most of its existence, WESC-FM simulcasted much of their AM's programming, which consisted of country music, although this differed at times.

In 2000, the simulcast was split apart with WESC-FM retaining its country format, while WESC was leased to Radio Training Network as the station adopting a Christian talk format in conjunction with Contemporary Christian WLFJ-FM. Clear Channel has not programmed the station since.

In 2001, WESC-FM adjusted its format to classic-leaning country in a move to separate itself from Hot Country sister WSSL-FM, and continues in that capacity. Although there is overlap with sister station WSSL-FM, WESC distinguishes itself by playing more 'genuine/raw' current selections along with hits from the early 1990s and before, often going back to the 1970s (and, on occasion, even earlier). It is also the area's affiliate for NASCAR, often calling itself "Your Racin' Station."

WESC remains one of the most recognized radio stations in Greenville, having an over 60-year heritage. For most of its run, the station has been a market leader and has a loyal fan base, as well as new listeners. It is one of the most recognized country music radio stations in the southeast, due to its deep heritage. WESC is typically rated among the Top 5 stations in the Greenville-Spartanburg-Anderson along with its sister station, WSSL-FM.

Country Heartlines

WESC-FM is, also, the station of origin of nationally syndicated radio show Country Heartlines, hosted by John Crenshaw. The show was popular in the 1990s and at one time was carried on stations across the country. The show consisted of a format of country songs played in between callers calling in with a mix of relationship and love related problems, of which Crenshaw and other listeners would give advice and a lending ear. The syndicated show ended in 2000.

Transmitter

WESC-FM broadcasts from a transmitter located near Caesars Head State Park in northern Greenville County near the North Carolina line. WESC-FM can be heard across most of northwestern/Upstate South Carolina and Western North Carolina, as well as a large part of northeastern Georgia and can even be heard sometimes in Central Georgia. The station can also be heard in a small portion of eastern Tennessee.
