Xuxa is the 1st Spanish and international album by Brazilian pop singer, presenter and actress Xuxa. It was released in 1990. The album contains the South America’s hit single "Ilariê", and the album sold around 300,000 copies. The album was later also released in Brazil. The album led to Xuxa receiving a nomination for Pop New Artist of the Year at the 1990 Lo Nuestro Awards.^[1]

Background

With the overwhelming success of Xuxa not only in Brazil but in other Latin American countries, which began to transmit the El Show de Xuxa, beyond the success of the song Ilariê beyond the frontiers, a compilation of his first three albums Brazilian was taken and the chosen songs were re-recorded in Spanish.

Xuxa, still could not speak Spanish, and had intensive lessons of language, especially with the pronunciation, as for recording disc need only memorize the lyrics. The songs were translated into Spanish and had some changes in the letter to keep the rhymes and suit the language, in addition to rhyme the names of characters from in the program song Bombom.

The instrumental bases did not need to be rewritten, but suffered some changes in the mix. In each country, the cover, back cover and the album booklet showed a design with different details, is in color and resolution, lyrics of the songs or data sheet. In some versions, a text on the cover of the album was inserted informing the right pronunciation of the name of the presenter: Shu-sha.

The album brings together the best songs of the presenter in the Spanish version as "Ilariê" ("Ilarié"), "Doce Mel" ("Dulce Miel"), "Arco-Íris" ("Arco Iris"), "Dança da Xuxa" ("Danza de Xuxa"), and "Vamos Brincar de Índio" ("Juguemos a los Indios").

Production

The album was produced by Michael Sullivan, Paulo Massadas and Guto Graça Mello with artistic coordination Max Pierre and Guto Graça Mello. It was recorded in the studios of Som Livre in Rio de Janeiro.^[2]

Release

The album was first released in Argentina in late 1989, and later in countries like the United States, Ecuador, Chile, Spain and Portugal. In Brazil, was launched in 1990 by Som Livre.^[3]

To publicize the album, Xuxa made appearances in Los Angeles, Miami, Mexico City and the Viña del Mar International Song Festival in Chile. This helped boost sales of her first international album, reaching the 300,000 copies mark.
