Zvonimir Kožulj (born 15 November 1993) is a Bosnian professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Croatian club Hajduk Split and the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team.
Club career
Early years / NK Široki Brijeg
Born in Ljubuški, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kožulj started his formation in 2000 with HŠK Zrinjski Mostar. In 2011, he left Zrinjski for NK Široki Brijeg after negotiations with the Zrinjski board failed. He made his senior debut with Široki Brijeg on 30 March 2013 after recovering from a long sustained injury at the start of the season. In the summer of 2013, he was loaned to NK Vitez where he stayed until December 2013. In the second part of the 2013-14 season, he was loaned to HNK Branitelj where he managed to establish himself.
He returned to Široki Brijeg for the beginning of the 2014-15 season where he managed to establish himself as a first-team player. He played in 35 games that season with 6 goals 3 assists. In the 2015-16 season, he scored 7 goals and made 3 assists in 25 games. He was amongst the favourites for winning the best player of the league award that season.[1]
Hajduk Split
On 14 June 2016, he made a transfer to Croatian club Hajduk Split worth €200,000.[2] Kožulj made his Hajduk debut in a 2-2 draw against CSMS Iași at the Emil Alexandrescu Stadium in Romania, in the Second Round of the 2016–17 UEFA Europa League qualifying, playing the full 90 minutes.[3] Kožulj made his league debut on 17 July 2016, scoring in a 2-0 away win over HNK Cibalia in the first round of the 1. HNL.[4] For his performance, Kožulj was picked as the best player of the 1st Round of the 1. HNL by reader of prvahnl.hr.[5]
International career
In May 2016, he was called up by Bosnia and Herzegovina manager, Mehmed Baždarević for the Bosnia and Herzegovina selection. He played in the 2016 Kirin Cup where he made his debut in the final when he entered the game in the 76th minute against Japan which Bosnia and Herzegovina won 2-1.
