IFK Göteborg won their first domestic title for 11 years, thanks to a remarkable second half of the season. In the absence of top scorer Marcus Berg, IFK got further stronger, eventually climbing past pacesetters Djurgården to win the title in front of more than 40.000 spectators at Nya Ullevi. Among the key players were the departed Berg, new Icelandic defender Ragnar Sigurðsson plus midfielder Pontus Wernbloom.
The club also broke its transfer record when it signed Tobias Hysén for a reputed 2.5 million euros from Sunderland. The striker, however, did not have the desired impact in the title run-in.
