The episodes of the second season of the anime series Naruto: Shippuden are directed by Hayato Date, and produced by Studio Pierrot and TV Tokyo. They are based on Part II of the Naruto manga series by Masashi Kishimoto.[1] Titled Long-Awaited Reunion (遥かなる再会 Harukanaru Saikai),[2] the season follows Naruto Uzumaki and friends attempting to reason with Sasuke Uchiha. The second season was broadcast on TV Tokyo in Japan, from November 8, 2007 to April 3, 2008.[3][4] The season was later released on DVD in Japan over five discs between April 8 and August 8, 2008 by Aniplex.[2]
On January 2, 2009 Viz Media and Crunchyroll began providing subtitled Naruto: Shippuden episodes.[5] Naruto Shippuden premiered in the United States in Disney XD in late 2009,[6] with these episodes airing between April 2, 2010 and October 27, 2010.[7] The season was collected in five DVD volumes by Viz Media from April 6, 2010 to August 10, 2010.[8][9] It was also compiled in two DVD boxes alongside the first season's last episodes on August 3, 2010 and October 19, 2010.[10][11] In the United Kingdom, Manga Entertainment released it in three volumes from October 10, 2010 to May 16, 2011,[12][13] while it was also part of a DVD box released on March 7, 2011.[14]
The season uses three musical themes for one opening theme and two ending themes. The opening theme for this season is "Distance" by Long Shot Party. The ending themes are "Kimi Monogatari" (キミモノガタリ, "Your Story") by Little by Little, which is used for episodes 31 to 41, and "Mezamero! Yasei" (目覚めろ!野性, "Awaken! Wild") by Matchy with Question?, which is used from episodes 42 to 53.

As Sai leaves, Naruto learns that the Akatsuki will extract Nine-Tailed Fox. The village elders propose Tsunade to keep Naruto safe in the village, but she refuses and promises to protect it after compromising with the Foundation's leader Danzo Shimura who asks Sai to join with Team Kakashi. Tsunade temporarily assigns the retired ANBU member Yamato to replace Kakashi and join with the team that Naruto is upset with Sai. | |||

Before Yamato, Sai, Naruto and Sakura are assigned to capture Orochimaru and gather information about Sasuke, Sai finds an envelope from the ANBU Root about Danzo's secret orders.
