Badwater is an unincorporated community in Inyo County, California.[1] It is located in Death Valley 7 miles (11 km) northeast of Bennetts Well,[2] at an elevation of -266 feet (-81 m).[1] Badwater is the lowest elevation settlement in North America, near Badwater Basin, which contains the lowest point in North America. Badwater has been noted for its unusual place name.[3]
Badwater is also known for being the start of the Badwater 135 Ultramarathon which is billed as the toughest foot race on the planet.
