Montagnareale (Sicilian: Muntagnariali) is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Messina in the Italian region Sicily, located about 140 kilometres (87 mi) east of Palermo and about 50 kilometres (31 mi) west of Messina. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 1,794 and an area of 16.2 square kilometres (6.3 sq mi).[1]
The municipality of Montagnareale contains the frazione (subdivision) San Nicolella.
