WEFM is an FM Station broadcasting on 95.9 MHz in Michigan City, Indiana, east of the Chicago metropolitan area. It is a member of the Indianapolis Colts affiliates radio network,[1] and the flagship station of the Gary SouthShore RailCats.

History

The original WEFM in Chicago at 99.5 FM (now WUSN) was the second station in the United States to begin broadcasting in FM stereo on June 1, 1961, when it was owned by the Zenith Radio Corporation, now Zenith Electronics Corporation. The call letters were abandoned by Zenith in 1981, and picked up May 31, 1982 by Michigan City Broadcasters, Inc., who previously operated the station as "WMCB Stereo 96". 95.9 FM had begun operations in September 1966.

The station's current music format is adult contemporary and oldies daytime, smooth jazz/easy listening vocals mix evenings and overnight, and a mixture of big band/classic pop, polkas, and gospel on the weekends. The station also airs coverage of many high school, college, and pro sporting events daily, and has several talk and news programs, such as "Community Focus Sponsored by Horizon Bank" featuring Ron Miller; and "Fun in Michiana Show with Uncle Lou Weber and David Dabagia."
